Wow, another great day and night of music here at Bonnaroo Day Three. Today was the most full lineup, and at all times there were three places to be at once. During the day, we got most of our work done in the morning, so we were able to enjoy some of the afternoon shows. Dutch and I went to see Against Me! who rocked it out, then went and checked out Gogol Bordello and Mastodon. There was work to be done, so we spent a good part of the evening walking around talking to people about their Bonnaroo experience. We really met some interesting people, so check back for that video later this afternoon. Conveniently, we did most of our interviewing in the area of Ben Folds, who put on a great set, peaking my ears when I heard his cover of Dre and Snoop’s “Bitches ain’t S*%t.” Jack Johnson took the main stage right around 8pm, so we definitely checked that out. Jack’s mellow sounds were the perfect compliment to a great sunset. Jack did an hour and a half set, highlighted by Eddie Vedder coming out to jam a bit. Pearl Jam was up next and tore through newer stuff and classics. Eddie was pretty drunk and got on some of his infamous political commentaries at times, but the band was tight and Pearl Jam was the highlight of the evening for me and I am sure many others. They closed up with their cover of “All Along the Watchtower”, even playing about a half hour more than scheduled. After Pearl Jam, I wanted to catch a bit of Chromeo, but missed out because we were shooting the rest of our video. I did go over and checked out the electronic sounds of Ghostland Observatory, who were definitely an interesting band. I had heard of them before, but had never had the chance to see them live. They are just a two piece, but they are so high energy that you would never know. I then checked out a few minutes of Sigur Ros. They were incredible, but I wanted to see what the hype was all about with Kanye West. I had high expectations, just from what I’ve seen from his performances on the Grammys and elsewhere. His “Glow in the Dark” show was what everyone was talking about all day, after the show was moved so that he would not be on at the same time as Jack Johnson. The 2:45a start time was later than I expected him, but I was looking forward to it nonetheless. That was until I sat there for two hours waiting for him to come on. One can assume that his ego would not allow him to start while other bands were still on, but this is a situation where he should have put it in check. The shows all weekend have gone on pretty much according to plan, and with him making people wait until 4:45a for his performance, he really alienated a mass of people who wanted to check him out, who might not otherwise go to a Kanye West show. What few people were left saw him take the stage with no one else, and go through songs from “Late Registration” and “Graduation.” I was so annoyed at that point that I was just ready for bed and left after four or five songs. Great day, but that just left a bad taste in my mouth for him, ending the night on a sour note. But all that aside, we still have a great final day here at Bonnaroo. Highlights today will be Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Death Cab for Cutie, Broken Social Scene, and Robert Randolph’s Revival. Widespread Panic will close out the festival this evening. It will definitely be a great way to wrap up the weekend. That’s all from me for now, check back tomorrow for all our festival wrap up. |

Posted Saturday 6/14 2:23pm - WATCH THE DAY TWO RECAP HERE |
 |
|
Well we are on Day Three here at Bonnaroo and I gotta say, its going to be tough to top last night. So many great shows. We had a lot of work to do editing, so our first show of the day was The Raconteurs over at What Stage. They were incredible live, and were a great way to kick off the day. After that, I went to check out M.I.A., and her tent was packed to the gills. If you have never seen M.I.A. live, she has fantastic stage presence, and just tears through one song right after another with her DJ laying down beats and her dancers gyrating and contorting. Afterwards, I took my first shower of the weekend, just in time to get rained on all night long. I can’t complain though, because it really helped cool things off. Unfortunately, I took too long and missed Chris Rock, but I got over to the main stage just in time for Metallica. In all my years of being a Metallica fan, I had never seen them live, so it was a real treat to get to see them. They played a two hour set, chock full of classics like “One”, “Unforgiven”, “Seek and Destroy”, and more. After Mother F’n Metllica, we went to procure a good spot for My Morning Jacket. I have recently become a My Morning Jacket devotee, so I was really stoked to get a chance to see them live. They were absolutely incredible. Really the highlight of the evening was watching them in the rain, with Jim James’s haunting wail coming over the speakers. Bonnaroo is abuzz today with talk of just how great they were. I did duck out for a few minutes to catch a bit of MSTRKRFT and Tiesto, but I was back in time for the second set that went until after 4am, and opened with a few 70’s soul covers from James Brown and Gap Band, and ended with Zack Galifinakis dressed as Little Orphan Annie. I went to catch a bit of the Disco Biscuits, but was spent and called it an early night at 5am. Yep, that’s what Bonnaro will do to ya. Today, its all about Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam, and the late night Kanye West set. Right now, I’m off to catch Against Me! More to come soon, with our full Day Two recap video and more pics and blogs. |

Posted Friday 6/13 at 1:20pm - CHECK OUT OUR VIDEO RECAP OF DAY ONE HERE
Its Day Two of Bonnaroo 2008 and last night was a great way to kick things off. Dutch was resting up for a bit, so I headed over to see MGMT's set at This Tent. They were fantastic live and really set the tone for the evening. I squeezed into the middle of the crowd for Battles, who I just got turned on to recently. They were great too. Their drummer looked like my dad, but he could really pound it. His high hat was about 6 feet above him, but he just put out a wall of sound. Definitely check them out. I then caught the end of the Celtics-Lakers game in the Bonnaroo Theatre and caught up with the rest of the crew. We went to see Vampire Weekend, who rocked it out. After VW, we walked around and checked out the fountain and stumbled upon the Silent Disco. If you've never seen one, its quite an experience. Everyone dancing their ass off in complete silence. The key is, everyone has wireless headphones. After that, it was a long day so we called it a night. Definitely a great day of music, with much more to come.
Today, I'm looking forward to seeing The Raconteurs, M.I.A., My Morning Jacket, Tiesto, and Mother F#*kin' Metallica. Will keep you posted of today's happenings. |

Posted 6/12 8:13pm local time - CHECK OUT OUR VIDEO INTRO HERE
So folks, we are here at Bonnaroo and we are all set up and ready to rock and roll. We've documented our day via video and should have that up soon. It was a pretty ridiculous trip up, and we are definitely looking forward to everyone seeing what we've been up to today.
Right now we are headed back to the camper, then heading over to check out MGMT, then we have a split between Zach Galifinakis and Battles. I'll be at Battles, because right afterwards is Vampire Weekend. Should be a early night tonight, but Bonnaroo just gives you an energy you can't decribe, even after 3 hours of sleep and a full day of travel and sitting in the sun. Check back later tonight for our diary of getting up here, and then tomorrow morning for pictures from tonight's shows. Bonnaroo!

 | | | | | | Posted 6/11 5:15pm Atlanta time So I went in and worked out my schedule today. I'm not sure how I'm going to see every band I want to see, but I think I came up with a pretty solid schedule. Pretty much, if I'm awake, there is something to see. My picks are in Green... - Pat Thursday, June 12
